Hey CDA Local Buzz Folks, we want you to meet Clyde ❤️. Clyde is a four-year-old German Shepherd mix. Clyde is a gentle giant. Weighing at almost 100 pounds and standing almost six feet on his hind legs, he is still a love bug. Playing ball, going on walks, and doing tricks for treats are his favorite things. If you have plenty of room in your home and your heart, stop by and meet Clyde. He sure would love to be adopted by you 🙏.

Companions Animal Center, formerly Kootenai Humane Society, has cared for and found homes for unwanted animals for over 45 years. The Coeur d'Alene Mac & Cheese Festival is a downtown celebration of the classic comfort dish, featuring gourmet creations from local chefs and eateries. The event includes tastings, live entertainment, beverage pairings, and a chance for attendees to vote for their favorite mac and cheese dishes, all set against the vibrant backdrop of Coeur d'Alene’s downtown. 2025 Our Gem Speaker Series

The 2025 Our Gem Speaker Series, hosted by the University of Idaho’s Idaho Water Resources Research Institute, offers free monthly virtual talks on critical water issues in North Idaho. Starting January 28, topics include water quality, wetland restoration, remediation efforts, and conservation strategies.

Jan. 28: Meg Wolf on Lake Coeur d’Alene’s water quality trends
Feb. 25: Lauren Zinsser on lead & zinc remediation in the Silver Valley
Mar. 25: Doug Evans on Cougar Bay wetlands restoration
Apr. 29: Suzanne Scheidt on water supply reliability & conservation

The series is open to all and aims to inspire sustainable water practices. Pre-registration is required at uidaho.edu/OurGem.

Coeur d’Alene Says Goodbye to
120-Year-Old Johnston Building

The nearly 120-year-old Johnston Building in downtown Coeur d’Alene is being demolished to make way for the $50 million Sherman Tower, a mixed-use development set to open in 2027. Built in 1905, the Johnston Building has a rich history, serving as a bank, office space, and more. The Historic Preservation Commission salvaged two historic vault doors, preserving a piece of the city’s past as it moves forward with progress. Read More…

During a 1976 excursion on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, Carter gained a deep appreciation for natural spaces. This experience shaped his use of the Antiquities Act to designate vast Alaskan lands as national monuments, which later became part of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA).
