Coeur d’Alene Library Stands Firm as State Law Limits Youth Access to Books

Libraries across Idaho are adjusting to a new law requiring them to separate materials deemed “harmful to minors.” The law mandates that books or materials flagged by a parent or legal guardian must be relocated to an adults-only section within 60 days.

The definition of “harmful to minors” includes works featuring nudity, sexual content, or other mature themes that lack significant literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for younger audiences. Supporters of the law argue it protects children from inappropriate content, while critics say it restricts access to books that could be educational or relevant to teens.

The Community Library Network in Kootenai County is responding by creating an adults-only room for mature content. Meanwhile, the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, which operates independently, has not had to adjust its policies, as its children’s section is already on a separate floor. Their policy maintains that only parents or legal guardians can determine what their children can access. Learn More…

Coeur d’Alene Grandfather Goes Back to School, Plans to Graduate with Granddaughter

For Richard Gauntlett, unfinished business means unfinished until it's done. At 84 years old, the Coeur d’Alene resident has re-enrolled at Oregon State University to complete the history degree he began more than six decades ago.

Gauntlett’s college journey was cut short in the late 1950s due to severe illness. Though he planned to return, life took him in a different direction—first supporting his parents financially, then serving in the U.S. Air Force, and later building a career in aviation mechanics and business. Despite his accomplishments, the desire to finish school never faded. Read More…

Just For Fun - The Hot Lips Spicy Margarita

Robb Report highlights a bold take on the classic spicy margarita with a recipe called Hot Lips. This cocktail blends tequila with fresh lime juice, agave syrup, and a spicy kick from muddled red chili peppers. The drink is balanced with a hint of fruitiness, often enhanced by using a chili salt rim for extra flavor. Unlike traditional spicy margaritas that rely on jalapeños, Hot Lips uses red chilies for a deeper heat profile. Go Here For The Recipe

Avalanche Risk Remains High in Idaho’s Backcountry After Heavy Snowfall

Backcountry travelers in Idaho’s Panhandle region are urged to exercise extreme caution as unstable snow conditions persist. Recent heavy snowfall has overloaded weak layers beneath the surface, creating the potential for large and deadly avalanches.

While the natural avalanche cycle has likely passed, conditions remain hazardous. Slopes with around two feet of fresh snow are particularly concerning, as avalanches in these areas could span multiple terrain features and reach mature forests below. The combination of collapsible weak layers and heavy new snow makes triggering a slide a real possibility. Learn More…
