Coeur d'Alene Offering Free Street Trees
Through Re-Leaf Program

The City of Coeur d'Alene is giving away free street trees to homeowners through the CDA Re-Leaf program. These trees, planted in public right-of-way areas, help improve neighborhoods by reducing pollution and managing stormwater. Homeowners who receive a tree must commit to caring for it, including regular watering and protection from lawn equipment.
Available tree species include Forest Pansy Redbud, Spring Snow Crabapple, Chanticleer Pear, and Crimson Spire Oak. Starting February 5, 2025, interested residents can contact the Urban Forester with the Coeur d'Alene Parks Department to sign up. Trees are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the deadline to apply is March 21, 2025. Planting will begin in April by a professional tree crew.
For more details or to request a tree, visit www.cdaid.org/parks, email [email protected], or call the Urban Forestry division at (208) 769-2266.
Winter Safety Tips to Keep
Your Pets Warm and Protected

As temperatures drop, it’s important to take extra precautions to keep pets safe and comfortable during winter. Providing warm indoor spaces and avoiding unattended exposure to space heaters can prevent accidents. When venturing outside, pets may need additional protection such as coats, sweaters, paw wax, or booties to stay warm. Signs that a pet is too cold include shivering, curling up, slow movement, whining, and seeking shelter. Owners should also be mindful of toxic substances like salt and antifreeze, wiping their pet’s paws after outdoor play. Ensuring pets have access to unfrozen water is crucial for hydration, and a quick honk before starting the car can help prevent harm to animals that may be hiding under the hood for warmth. Why Strong Relationships Are
Essential for Brain Function

Social connections are vital not only for emotional well-being but also for maintaining brain health. Engaging with others can boost cognitive function, reduce stress, combat loneliness, encourage neuroplasticity, and improve memory and learning. These interactions activate key brain regions, lower harmful cortisol levels, and foster new neural connections, enhancing overall mental resilience. At Wired2Learn Treatment and Learning Center, building strong relationships is a core value, especially for children with learning disabilities. A supportive network of peers, mentors, and family members fosters a sense of belonging, boosts confidence, and aids both academic and emotional growth. Learn More Here…

Fish and Game to Host Meeting in CDA
on Chinook Salmon Season

Local Fish and Game fisheries biologists are set to host a public meeting in Coeur d’Alene to review last year’s Chinook salmon season, provide projections for this year’s salmon return, and discuss potential management strategies. The meeting will offer an opportunity for anglers to share their input, ensuring that salmon returns are managed in a way that best serves both conservation efforts and those who participate in the fishery.
The gathering will begin with a pizza social at 5:30 p.m., followed by presentations from biologists. The discussion will continue until all angler feedback has been collected and addressed. Based on previous years, the meeting is expected to last approximately two hours. Learn More…
