Coeur d’Alene Offers Free Compost Weekend

The City of Coeur d’Alene Wastewater Department is hosting its 8th Annual Free Compost Weekend on April 12-13, 2025, offering residents an opportunity to collect high-quality compost at no cost. The event will take place at 3500 N. Julia Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
This is a self-serve event, meaning attendees should bring their own shovels and containers to transport the compost. Trucks and trailers are welcome, but heavy equipment is not allowed. The compost, known as Coeur d’Green, is a Class “A” EQ (exceptional quality) biosolid compost, making it a nutrient-rich addition to gardens and landscaping projects.
The City of Coeur d’Alene has been composting biosolids since 1990, providing a sustainable way to recycle organic waste into beneficial soil amendments. This event encourages residents to take advantage of the compost to enrich their gardens and promote healthy plant growth.

Idaho’s Saint Joe River Named
World’s Highest Navigable River

The Saint Joe River in northern Idaho has earned the title of the world's highest navigable river, according to the World Record Academy. Flowing through the scenic Bitterroot Mountains, the river reaches an elevation of approximately 2,128 feet (649 meters) above sea level, making it the highest river that boats can regularly travel.
The Saint Joe River stretches about 140 miles, winding through pristine forests and remote landscapes before eventually joining Coeur d’Alene Lake. Despite its high elevation, it remains accessible to boats, including fishing vessels, kayaks, and small motorboats, particularly in its lower and middle sections.
The river’s unique geography and relatively gentle flow make it an appealing spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Boaters and anglers frequent its waters for trout fishing, while kayakers navigate its clear currents. In addition to recreation, the river holds historical significance, having served as an important route for early settlers and loggers in the region. Read More…
