Kohberger’s Defense Seeks to Limit Use of "Murderer" and "Psychopath" in Trial

As the trial of Bryan Kohberger approaches, both the prosecution and defense have filed motions to restrict certain language and evidence that could influence the jury. The defense is seeking to bar terms like "murderer" and "psychopath," arguing they could unfairly prejudice jurors, while prosecutors want to prevent the defense from claiming the state is "attempting to kill" Kohberger in reference to the death penalty. Kohberger’s attorneys have again requested that the death penalty be removed as a sentencing option, citing his autism diagnosis, and have also filed a motion to limit the use of what they call "inflammatory evidence," including autopsy photographs and police body-camera footage. Jury selection for the trial is scheduled to begin in late July. Read More…

To ensure residents understand the necessity and impact of the bond, the department plans to launch an outreach campaign ahead of the election. Learn More…
Idaho Could Become First State to Use Firing Squads as Default Death Penalty Method

Idaho may become the only state to use a firing squad as its primary execution method if House Bill 37, which has passed both chambers of the state legislature, if not vetoed by Gov. Brad Little. Supporters argue that firing squads are a humane alternative and could help resolve ongoing challenges with obtaining lethal injection drugs. The Idaho Department of Correction would be responsible for developing execution procedures, and if approved, the law would take effect on July 1, 2026. Read More…
