Coeur dāAlene Explores Sidewalk Expansion Through State Funding Program

Coeur dāAlene city leaders are taking a closer look at how to improve sidewalk access and pedestrian safety across the community. During a recent City Council meeting, members discussed the possibility of joining the stateās Local Improvement District (LID) program to help fund new sidewalk construction.
The LID program allows municipalities to finance infrastructure improvements by pooling resources and spreading costs across property owners who directly benefit from the upgrades. While this funding model could speed up sidewalk development in Coeur dāAlene, it also raises questions about fairness and affordabilityāparticularly for residents who might be required to help cover the costs. Goats May Soon Tackle Overgrown
Coeur dāAlene Hillside

Faced with an overgrown hillside too steep for traditional landscaping crews, the Meadow Ranch Homeownerās Association has come up with an unusualāand eco-friendlyāsolution: goats.
After receiving the same recommendation from multiple tree service companies, the HOA is pursuing a plan to bring in a team of billies and nannies to graze down thick brush and weeds on a one-acre slope near Meadow Ranch Avenue, just south of Fred Meyer. The effort has gained traction with the cityās General Services/Public Works Committee, which recently voted to support a code change that would allow homeowner associations to temporarily use goats for weed control.
Maintaining the steep property has long been a challenge. The terrain makes it nearly impossibleāand potentially dangerousāfor workers to access the area safely. Traditional equipment isn't feasible, and years of overgrowth have not only created a fire hazard but also threatened the health of nearby trees. Learn Moreā¦

Cow and Calf Moose Relocated from
University of Idaho Campus

A moose and her calf recently wandered onto the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, drawing attention from students and faculty. While the sight was unusual and even exciting for many, wildlife officials knew it posed potential risks for both the animals and the public.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game responded to the situation on March 28, relocating the pair after they had spent several days in and around campus. Officials noted that while moose are not uncommon in the area, their prolonged presence in a busy urban setting can lead to safety concerns, especially if the animals become stressed or agitated.
