Staffing Cuts Threaten Summer Recreation in North Idaho Forests

Recreational areas in North Idaho could see major impacts this summer as the U.S. Forest Service plans significant staffing reductions due to budget constraints. With seasonal workforce cuts looming, basic maintenance in popular forest destinationsālike trash pickup, restroom cleaning, and campground upkeepāmay be drastically scaled back.
The Idaho Panhandle National Forest is among the areas facing reductions, with officials stating they wonāt be able to hire enough temporary workers to meet usual service levels. Typically, seasonal crews help maintain hundreds of recreational sites during the regionās peak outdoor months.
