Idaho Senate Rejects $1.1B Transportation Budget Over Constitutional Concerns

The Idaho Senate rejected a major transportation budget on Monday following constitutional concerns raised by the chamber’s Majority Leader. The decision effectively halts funding for the Idaho Transportation Department for the upcoming fiscal year, creating uncertainty for state infrastructure projects.
The proposed $1.1 billion budget, which included over $850 million from dedicated state funds and $292 million in federal dollars, was designed to cover road maintenance, new construction, and administrative operations. Lake City Students Step Into Statehouse Roles at Youth in Government Event

A group of ambitious students from Lake City High School recently stepped into the roles of state lawmakers during the annual Youth in Government conference in Boise. The program, hosted by the YMCA, gives students a hands-on experience in legislative procedures and civic engagement.
Over the course of four days, the students participated in simulated government sessions at the Idaho State Capitol. They debated bills, assumed leadership positions, and experienced the inner workings of state government.
