Undocumented Immigrants Now Required to Register with DHS Under New Rule

A federal judge has upheld a new federal policy requiring millions of undocumented immigrants to register with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and carry official documentation confirming their status. The policy took effect Friday following a decision by U.S. District Court Judge Trevor Neil McFadden, who denied a legal challenge from immigration advocacy groups.

The registration mandate applies to immigrants in the country without legal status, including individuals over the age of 14. Those affected must provide biometric data and personal details through an online application managed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Once approved, registrants will receive documents that they are legally required to carry at all times. Noncompliance may result in fines up to $5,000 or even imprisonment. Read More…

This year, the program has reached its highest funding level to date, with a combination of local donations, community partnerships, and grants fueling the expansion.
