Wildfire Prevention Efforts Prompt Hayden Creek Shooting Pit Closure

The Hayden Creek shooting pit and surrounding areas in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests will close from Monday, October 21, to October 27 due to pile burning, as part of the ongoing Kootenai Fuels Reduction Project. The closure is crucial for the safety of crews working downrange, as they would be in danger if shooting remained open. This project aims to thin out 3,000 acres in Kootenai County's wildland-urban interface to reduce wildfire risk. Previous closures in the area began in April for related thinning and pruning work. School Funding Bills

The TECM initiative, part of Governor Brad Little's "Leading Idaho" effort, will eventually fund up to $1.6 billion in road improvements statewide, improving infrastructure in key corridors.
