The Moose Hosts Literary Night with
Four Local Writers

Join an exciting evening of literature at The Moose, featuring four local authors who will present their latest works on travel, romance, and science fiction. The event begins at 6 p.m., with each author given 10-15 minutes to introduce themselves, share an excerpt, and talk about their books. Following the presentations, attendees can engage in a Q&A session, participate in open discussions, and get their books signed. Featured authors include Kim Roth, Mary Merrill, Amber Laura Young, and Lee Kemter. Learn More...
Idaho Panhandle Forests Offering Christmas Tree Permits for 2024 Season

Christmas tree cutting permits are now available in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests for $5 each, with a limit of three permits per person. Fourth graders can get a free permit with an 'Every Kid Outdoors' pass. Read More...
From Member to Mentor: Teen Finds Community at Coeur d'Alene Kroc Center

At the Salvation Army Coeur d'Alene Kroc Center, 18-year-old Connor Evenson has become a familiar and beloved figure over the past seven years. Known for his positivity and dedication, Connor first joined as a young member and is now a Wellness Attendant, helping with fitness classes and equipment setup. Despite facing significant health challenges, including multiple heart surgeries, Connor finds strength and community at the Kroc Center. His dedication and spirit have made him a valued member of the staff and a role model for others. Read More...
Trustee Race at North Idaho College Centers on Accreditation Risks

In the race for North Idaho College trustee seats, accreditation has emerged as the central issue. The college is at risk of losing its accreditation due to governance problems, following a show-cause sanction from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). One group of candidates focuses on retaining accreditation to safeguard the institution's future, while another group criticizes the NWCCU's emphasis on diversity and equity. Fun and Learning Combine in
Coeur d'Alene's Student Boat Races

Coeur d'Alene middle schoolers recently participated in a cardboard boat race at SafeSplash SwimLabs, using creativity, math, and a lot of duct tape to stay afloat. Boats ranged from a rainbow-themed design to a coffin-shaped one. Teams learned teamwork and applied lessons on volume and density in their boat-building efforts. Despite predictions of sinking, most students were surprised by their success, with several teams placing well in the competition. Read More...

Idaho Fish and Game to Discuss Hunting Technology Concerns on Nov. 2

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has organized the Hunting and Advanced Technology (HAT) Working Group to address concerns about the impact of modern hunting technologies on the ethics of fair chase. The group will meet on November 2, 2024, in Boise to explore public opinions and develop recommendations on acceptable technology for hunting. The meeting is open to the public both in-person and via Zoom. Read More...
